KAFU Sensitization Workshop on AGPO Program Targets Community

On Thursday, May 2, 2024, Kaimosi Friends University hosted a sensitization workshop aimed at empowering local suppliers of goods and services to take advantage of the Access to Government Procurement Opportunities (AGPO) program. The AGPO Program aims to facilitate the participation of youth, women, and persons with disabilities in government procurement processes. It is grounded in Article 227 of the Constitution of Kenya (2010), which emphasizes fair, equitable, transparent, and cost-effective public procurement.

The workshop, organized by the University’s Procurement Department, focused on providing valuable information to prequalified suppliers and potential participants. Attendees learned about prequalification criteria, the registration process, and where to find information on government tenders. Josephine Rapando, the Head of Procurement, delivered a comprehensive presentation during the event.

Prof. Maurice Amadalo, the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Administration, Finance, Planning, and Development, inaugurated the workshop. In his opening remarks, Prof. Amadalo encouraged the neighboring community to leverage the AGPO program for securing procurement opportunities at the University. He emphasized KAFU’s commitment to positively impacting the community and ensuring that 30% of procurement opportunities are set aside for disadvantaged groups—specifically women, youth, and people with disabilities. Prof. Amadalo also revealed plans for a similar training initiative by the School of Business and Economics, aimed at empowering the local business community with the knowledge needed to exploit opportunities effectively.

The meeting also drew local political leaders and the Church, who in turn cascade the message of opportunities through their fora.

KAFU is one of the best Government institutions to go into business with. At the close of the fiscal year to June 2023, the University had no pending bills, a trend reflected across previous year and which the university is keen to maintain through prudent resource management. The University is equally committed its integrity values in the procurement processes.
