Kaimosi Friends University Explores Collaboration with Universities in Russia

His Excellency Mr. Vsevolod Tkachenko, the Russian Ambassador to Kenya, today visited Kaimosi Friends University, marking a potential collaboration in academic and cultural cooperation between the university and Russia. The Ambassador's visit is a significant milestone in the institution’s journey as it continues to expand its global partnerships and deepen international cooperation in education, science, and culture.

The Ag. Vice Chancellor Prof. Peter Mwita said that he was excited about the prospects of entering into collaboration with Russian Universities in areas such as engineering, natural sciences, agriculture, and information technology. Russia has long been a leader in scientific research, technological advancement, and cultural richness.

“This visit is a momentous occasion for Kaimosi Friends University. The prospect of collaborating with esteemed Russian institutions and offering our students access to these scholarship opportunities is truly exciting," remarked Prof. Mwita.

“We also recognize the value of cultural exchange, language studies, and student mobility programs which can greatly benefit both our students and faculty. Our Department of Linguistic will establish a course that will train Russian Language.” added Prof. Mwita.

During the visit, discussions between Ambassador Tkachenko and the management of Kaimosi Friends University centered on forging a robust collaborative relationship. A key highlight of the discussions was the unveiling of existing scholarship avenues for Kenyan students seeking higher education in Russia.

The Ambassador highlighted that scholarship opportunities are available through three prominent Russian universities: Moscow State Institute of International Relations (MGIMO University), Peoples' Friendship University of Russia (RUDN University), and Moscow State University.

"We see great potential in establishing strong ties with Kaimosi Friends University, and our aim is to build bridges for sustained academic and cultural partnerships that will benefit both our nations," said Ambassador Tkachenko.

"These are world-class institutions that offer a wide range of programs. Through the partnerships fostered by the Russian Embassy, Kenyan students can access these scholarships and gain invaluable international experience," Ambassador Tkachenko explained.

Senator for Vihiga County Hon. Godfrey Osotsi said that partnership between Kaimosi Friends University and Universities in Russia is invaluable to the people of Vihiga County. He added that the university will benefit from scholarship program and collaborations will delve into critical areas like climate change and the ever-evolving landscape of technology.

“We endeavour to support our sole university in Vihiga so as to ensure enhanced growth and more opportunities. This collaborations especially in climate change promises mutual growth and underscores the importance of international cooperation in addressing global challenges." Said senator Osotsi.

This visit signifies a crucial step towards enhanced educational and cultural exchange between Kenya and Russia, potentially creating pathways for Kaimosi Friends University students and faculty to engage with leading Russian academic centers. Both parties have committed to further discussions to solidify concrete agreements and initiatives in the near future.
