Dr. Jane Amunga has carried out research on cross cutting issues in education and her articles published in peer reviewed journals are receiving wide readership. She is equally keen on gender issues in education, a factor that has seen her research on the real disparities that exist between boys and girls in enrolment and academic achievement which may be masked by general trends. Of special interest is also the pronounced disparities in science-based subjects which essentially has excluded most girls from science-based career fields. Her argument is that, the country needs to harness the ability of both boys and girls, men and women in order to realize her Vision 2030, attain Sustainable Development Goals and actualize the Kenya Kwanza’s Bottom-up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). With the introduction of Competency Based Curriculum, Jane hopes that, the interesting scientific activities introduced early in the curriculum will draw more girls into science. However, she may only effectively gauge this when the current CBC pioneer learners complete junior secondary and choose their pathways.
Dr. Amunga is a member of Society of Educational Research and Evaluation in Kenya (SEREK), International Society for Development, Sustainability and Association for the Study of the Middle East and Africa and Association of Academic Registrars of Universities in Kenya.
