VICE CHANCELLOR'S PROFILE
Professor Peter Nyamuhanga Mwita is the esteemed Vice-Chancellor of Kaimosi Friends University (KAFU), a position he has held since his official appointment on May 14, 2025. With a proven track record as Acting Vice-Chancellor since February 19, 2024, he has provided exceptional leadership, positioning the university for significant institutional and academic growth.
A visionary leader, Prof. Mwita spearheaded the launch of KAFU’s ambitious 2023–2027 Strategic Plan. This plan aims to transform the university into a world-class institution known for excellence in teaching, research, and community engagement, aligning with Kenya’s Vision 2030 and other global development goals. His commitment to academic advancement is evident in the university's groundbreaking initiatives, including its first Innovation Week, which brought together researchers and innovators to address real-world challenges. He has also championed the development of the School of Health Sciences and forged partnerships with the Vihiga County Government to provide valuable training opportunities for students.
Beyond academics, Prof. Mwita is dedicated to sustainable development and community enrichment. KAFU is a key partner in a $95 million zero-emission biofuel project, an initiative expected to create over 1,200 jobs and generate long-term income for the university. His international outlook has also elevated KAFU's profile, leading to collaborations with international partners like the Russian Ambassador to Kenya.
Prof. Mwita's leadership philosophy is rooted in inclusive governance, innovation, and a profound commitment to service. He aims to inspire and transform KAFU into a beacon of academic excellence, with a clear focus on producing "job creators rather than job seekers".
