The event was graced by the Chief Guest, Hon. Musalia Mudavadi, EGH, Prime Cabinet Secretary and Cabinet Secretary for Foreign and Diaspora Affairs, who underscored the government’s unwavering commitment to restoring Kenya’s forest cover and achieving the national goal of 15 billion trees by 2032 under the leadership of H.E. Dr. William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya.

More than 50 students from Kaimosi Friends University and several members of staff actively took part in the exercise, reflecting the university’s strong culture of environmental responsibility and community service.

Prof. Amimo reaffirmed the university’s commitment to environmental sustainability, noting that KAFU continues to integrate environmental education and climate action across its academic, research, and outreach programmes-“Each tree we plant is a living symbol of hope and responsibility, through collective action, we nurture a greener Kenya and uphold our duty to safeguard creation.” said Prof. Amimo.

The day’s activities contributed to the revival of the Maragoli Hills Forest, a critical 465-acre ecosystem serving millions across Western Kenya. The event also brought together multiple agencies including the County Government of Vihiga, Kenya Defence Forces, Kenya Airways, Safaricom, Zep-Re, and Kenya Civil Aviation Authority, among others, united in advancing the cause of environmental protection.

Kaimosi Friends University celebrates this milestone as part of its enduring mission to promote education that transforms society nurturing not only minds, but also the planet.
