The expedition, organized under The President’s Award–Kenya (PA-K), brought together over 150 participants from leading institutions across Western and Nyanza regions, including Kaimosi Friends University, Friends College Kaimosi, Kisii University, Rongo University, Bumbe Technical Training Institute, and Matili Technical Training Institute.

For four intense days, the young adventurers camped, hiked, and navigated the steep and rugged terrain of the Changach and Mukomet Hills, fulfilling the Adventurous Journey Section a mandatory requirement for the Gold Level Certificate of the PA-K Programme. This challenge tested their endurance, teamwork, and leadership in a real-life environment that demanded both mental and physical strength.

“Our students are not just hiking; they are proving that the spirit of KAFU is one of resilience, teamwork, and excellence. This journey embodies the very essence of youth leadership and character development that prepares them to be truly world-ready,” remarked Dr. Opande PA-K University Coordinator.

They also shared this life-changing experience alongside peers from other universities, forging lifelong friendships and strengthening inter-institutional collaboration in youth development.

PA-K team leader Mr. Wachira commended the participants for their courage and commitment, describing the expedition as a transformative experience that molds young people into responsible citizens ready to contribute meaningfully to national and global development.

As the teams return from the hills of Kerio Valley, they carry with them not only new skills and stories of perseverance, but also a renewed sense of purpose and community living proof that the journey to excellence is as important as the destination.
